Background
I grew up on a property on the South Coast of NSW and then went to study Agricultural Science and Economics at the University of Sydney. After completing my degree I worked for an environmental consultancy based in Sydney. I moved to France in the mid 1990's and worked for the Chamber of Commerce and a Business School in Paris. In 2006, after setting up my own training and consultancy business, I did an MBA at the Paris Graduate School of Management.
Placements
First Placement
Policy, Procurement and Reform, Corporate Strategies Division
In my first rotation I was exposed to a wide range of issues related to financial management and reform in the Public Service. This first rotation in a corporate area provided me with an excellent overview and understanding of financial management in the public sector.
Second Placement
International Heritage and Economics Section, International Heritage Division
In this rotation I assisted with the preparation of policy positions and briefing for the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in Spain. I worked closely with the International Team, Australia's Commissioner to the World Heritage Committee, and cultural and natural heritage experts on the Australian World Heritage delegation. It was a fantastic opportunity to see how the Department prepares for and participates in high level international meetings.
Third Placement
Coorong and Lower Lakes Taskforce, Water Reform Division
The Coorong Taskforce was established in February 2009 to coordinate DEWHA's response to the ecological crisis facing the Coorong and Lower Lakes of South Australia. In addition to providing policy advice to Ministers and senior executives, I was involved in the project management of a $10 million contract with South Australia for a feasibility study to develop a long-term plan for the management of the Coorong and Lower.
Final Placement
Sustainability Education & Environment Councils
After the Graduate Program I chose to work in the Sustainability Education & Environment Councils Section. The goal of this section is to encourage the uptake of sustainable practices and behavioural and attitudinal change by working in partnership with governments, education, industry and business sectors. I believe that I have found a position where I can apply my skills and experience and continue to learn.
'the best thing about working for us ... is the environment'
