Media release
9 April 2010
The federal environment department is inviting people to comment on BHP Billiton’s proposed expansion of longwall mining of the Bulli coal seam at Appin, NSW.
Comments on the draft guidelines for the environmental impact statement on the proposal will be accepted via the department’s website from today, Friday 9 April.
The comment period will remain open for 15 business days, closing on Friday 30 April.
The proposal is to expand underground mining operations at the existing Appin coal mine and West Cliff Colliery. It includes the development of several new underground longwall mining areas and an upgrade of the West Cliff Washery.
