Commonwealth Environment Research Facilities (CERF)
The Commonwealth Environment Research Facilities (CERF) officially closed June 2011. The closing of the CERF program includes the Marine and Tropical Sciences Research Facility (MTSRF).
The $100million program started in 2005 in response to Australia's priority environmental concerns. The program supported environmental public policy objectives drawing on multiple disciplines, professional partnerships and existing research efforts. The dedication and hard work over the life of the program resulted in a wealth of research information useful to inform policy decisions for Government and other research users.
CERF legacy products
CERF final report
The CERF final report is a snap shot of the program with a listing of the CERF Hubs, significant Projects and Fellowships. It outlines the program objectives and outcomes with some examples of CERF research. The report highlights the program successes and lessons learnt useful for future programs.
CERF mapper
CERF mapper is an interactive tool that allows you to view some of the project outcomes funded through the CERF program. It lists the research Hubs, Significant Project and Fellowship published journal articles, books, chapters, documents and factsheets. The CERF mapper tool is searchable by hub, location, keyword and policy relevance. It lists each item with name and location plus the journal location with bibliography detail and abstract.

CERF evaluation report
The CERF evaluation report summarises the outcomes of the CERF Program.
The evaluation addresses how well the CERF program performed against its objective to disburse $100 million over four years to strengthen public good environmental research; build research knowledge; and deliver outputs for decision and policy makers.
The evaluation report also includes recommendations for strategic improvements for the National Environmental Research Program (NERP) informing the future program's strategic direction outlining the enhancements necessary for the processes and policies that underpin it.
CERF research websites
Each of the CERF Research hubs has established a website that lists published documents; and outlines the research themes, location of research, researchers and affiliated institutions.
CERF research final reports
Each of the CERF Hubs, Significant Projects and Fellowships has highlighted their CERF research in a final document. For full details of the research including analysis and outcomes follow the links to the attached documents.

National Environmental Research Program (NERP)
Future research investment will be delivered through NERP. The NERP program replaces the CERF program and focuses on biodiversity, coinciding with the International Year of Biodiversity.
