Administering Natural Heritage Trust programmes
The Natural Heritage Trust contributes part of the appropriation for the Department's outputs.
The Department, through the Natural Resource Management Programmes Division, manages the Natural Heritage Trust's Bushcare, Landcare, Rivercare and Coastcare programmes jointly with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
During 2003-04, the Department administered Australian Government expenditure totalling $249.977 million on environmental work under the Natural Heritage Trust, made up of:
- $99.208 million under the Bushcare programme;
- $73.187 million under the Landcare programme;
- $41.702 million under the Rivercare programme; and
- $35.880 million under the Coastcare programme.

Table 38 reports performance results against the indicators in the 200-04 portfolio budget statements.
