Performance 2005-06 and trends
In 2005-06, work was conducted on the indirect economic impacts of some of DEH’s parks activities and also the contribution made to the Tasmanian economy of activity in the Antarctic.
Commentary
The parks study considered the economic impacts of protected areas in and nearby the south coast of New South Wales. This area includes the Booderee National Park. Results are not yet available from this work.
In 2001-02, the Antarctic sector was estimated as being worth approximately $100 million to the Tasmanian economy. More recent surveying in 2005-06 indicates that this value has increased to $126 million per year. Of that expenditure, $73 million, or 58%, was on goods and services sourced in Australia.
