Goals 2005-06
Performance 2005-06 and trends

One minor non-conformance with Antarctic environmental protection legislation administered by AAD occurred during the 2005-06 season. This non-conformance was dealt with administratively.

A register of legislation and regulations applicable to environmental aspects of AAD activities was developed in 2005-06. This register will be maintained on an ongoing basis.

A catalogue of environmental authorisations and permits issued by AAD during 2005-06 was developed.

A protocol for self-auditing compliance with environmental protection legislation administered by AAD was developed for commencement in the 2006-07 season.

Commentary

AAD activities are subject to federal, state and local government legislation, as well as national and international agreements that apply to the Antarctic continent, the Southern Ocean, the Territory of Heard and McDonald Islands, to AAD facilities in Kingston and Hobart as well as activities on Macquarie Island. AAD is required to comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and agreements, and requires compliance by all personnel who work for or on behalf of AAD, including contractors and suppliers.

Under the EMS, AAD maintains a Register of all international, Commonwealth, State and Territory laws, codes of practice, guidelines, government policies, licences, authorisations and permits applicable to its environmental aspects. Because of the isolation of the area of activity, AAD undertakes self-auditing for educational and awareness purposes and to continue to improve our environmental performance.
