EN7, EN25, EN28: Impacts on biodiversity
Goals 2005-06
Continued involvement in research into human impacts on biodiversity
Performance 2005-06 and trends
Research into human impacts on biodiversity was not conducted in 2005-06. Data is not available for reporting on biodiversity impacts (EN7), impacts of activities on protected and sensitive areas (EN25), and numbers of IUCN Red List species with habitats in areas affected by operations (EN28).
Commentary
There is some scientific information and data relating to these indicators: for example, on Macquarie Island, there are changes with respect to increasing rabbit populations that are having an impact on breeding colonies of birds and penguins. However, data and information that would address this criterion for all AAD activities and operations are not currently consolidated into a form for reporting purposes.
Goals 2006-07
- Clarification of scope and discussion on the possibility of setting up a data collection framework.
