Performance 2005-06 and trends
When the Legal and Policy Requirements Register was restructured and updated, a preliminary compliance assessment was made against the identified obligations. No incidents were identified. At the Management Review in May 2006 the senior executive resolved to meet future compliance audit requirements by using external service providers.
Despite being primarily an OH&S concern, the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) water contamination incident highlighted the need for comprehensive risk assessment processes when developing initiatives that target environmental performance improvement. The restructured Aspect and Impact Risk Register has the capacity to include identified risks into the prioritisation of implementation actions-a requested outcome of the EMS management review in May.
Commentary
Regular and scheduled compliance assessments of the environmental legal and policy obligations of DEH are a requirement of ISO 14001.
Goals 2006-07
- Source a suitable service provider and conduct a full compliance assessment of all identified legal and policy obligations, as appropriate, by May 2007.
