Performance 2005-06 and trends
Environmental risk management is integrated with Parks’ general risk management policies, requirements, systems and reporting. Biodiversity risks are a category of risk under the risk watch list.
An audit committee is established for the Director of National Parks (DNP) in accordance with the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997 Act. This committee also assesses performance against the KRAs, and reports to the Director of National Parks.
The principle of using contractors and service providers that have good environmental records is embedded in the DNP Spending Policy. Staff members are required to take into account the environmental credentials of suppliers when making procurement decisions. This policy is implemented at individual parks.
Commentary
Parks employees are inducted at each park and this process includes an awareness of environmental responsibilities under the EPBC Act and the relevant management plan for each reserve.
