EM1: Environmental management system (EMS) conformance
Goals 2005-06
Establish a certified EMS to cover all business activities by December 2006
Performance 2005-06 and trends
SSD is working towards achievement of this goal. SSD has a draft EMS that covers management of the DEH Darwin facility and is in the process of being further developed to incorporate activities undertaken as part of the Environmental Research Institute of the Supervising Scientist (ERISS) research programme.
Commentary
An action plan was established outlining specific tasks required to achieve the goals set in the 2004-05 Triple Bottom Line (TBL) report. Progress was monitored quarterly. Staff changes and restricted resources over the reporting period delayed achievement of this goal.
To assist with achievement of this goal an EMS steering group was established in March 2006. This group includes representatives from senior management, the ERISS research programme and the Office of the Supervising Scientist (OSS) Supervision and Audit team. The initial task for the group was to review our current compliance register to include all legislation, regulations, authorisations and codes of compliance the organisation is required to comply with, to cover all of SSD’s research activities. This is still under development.
Goals 2006-2007
- Develop a certified EMS to cover all business activities by June 2007.
