Performance 2005-06 and trends
To supply the 3444 gigajoules (GJ) of direct electricity used to power SSD sites required the expenditure of
10 435GJ of indirect energy. When combined with a small amount of indirect energy for the supply of fuel oil for backup generation, total SSD indirect energy use was 10 480GJ for 2005-06.
Jabiru Field Station is dependant on Ranger uranium mine to provide electricity for the facility and uses a diesel generator for backup electricity supply.
During 2005-06 SSD purchased a total 1100 litres of diesel fuel to ensure the backup supply of electricity.
| 2004-05 | 2005-06 | |
|---|---|---|
| Litres purchased | 1000 | 1100 |
| Total cost | $1749 | $1837 |
| Indirect energy- diesel (GJ) | 41 | 45 |
Commentary
SSD has no control over the amount of diesel used per annum to provide backup electricity. SSD is totally reliant on the mine to produce electricity and has no control over the frequency of interruptions to electricity supply, resulting in the need to use a backup generator. SSD does not have access to green power in the Northern Territory.
