Commentary
DEH completed a review of its EMS prior to being assessed for certification in May 2006. SSD deferred revision of the EMS pending advice from DEH on an improved structure for development of documentation in support of the EMS. This information was not supplied until late in the reporting period and was not actioned during the reporting period.
Discussions were held with scientific staff and management to determine the most appropriate way to collect information on SSD’s impact on the environment through the organisation’s research activities (laboratory and fieldwork). Concerns were raised during discussions about the resources required to conduct this study. The project involving fieldwork-identified as being the most suitable for collecting data to measure performance- was deferred this year. Collection of data on SSD’s impact on the environment through business activities is currently being considered as part of SSD’s Project Management Framework review.
Goals 2006-07
- Update the compliance register and environmental aspects review by March 2007.
