Performance 2005-06 and trends

DEH staff participated in a variety of volunteering activities during work hours in 2005-06. Some examples include:

The completion of the new Certified Agreement for 2006-09 included the retention and promotion of appropriate leave for volunteer work. DEH received a Bronze Award during National Families Week for our initiatives on work/life balance.

Where DEH operations take place alongside local communities, such as at remote National Parks sites, consultation takes place with those local communities as standard practice. Co-management of Parks with Indigenous people assists in negotiating the community impacts and contributions of our operations. In our policy development work, such as on fisheries or biodiversity issues, regular consultations are held with local communities likely to be affected by our work. Good consultation is a requirement of the Australian Government system for policy development and regulatory impact assessment.

Commentary

Volunteer leave is a subcategory of personal leave, so while examples of corporate volunteering can be identified, a precise number of work hours or participating staff cannot be produced. DEH does not have a formal policy on corporate volunteering.
