Performance 2005-06 and trends
DEH is certified as an Investors in People (IiP) organisation. Our system was audited in 2005-06 and our IiP certification was renewed. Much of what we do to provide employees with benefits beyond those mandated is done under the banner of IiP. Some examples of our benefits include:
- 12 weeks of paid maternity leave (can be taken over 24 weeks at half pay), 40 weeks unpaid (paternity and adoption leave also available). An additional two weeks of paid personal leave may be taken for maternity purposes
- a free gym for staff use
- health checks and assessments
- in-house education and training for staff
- participation in the Public Sector Management Programme
- staff recognition awards (Australia Day Awards and Secretary’s Awards)
- assistance with staff mobility and development
- education bursaries for tertiary study (up to $1000 per person per year).
In 2005-06, 617 Health Futures assessments were conducted, at a cost of $254 512. DEH continued to provide family rooms for staff use and received a Bronze Award during National Families Week for our work on family-friendly workplaces and work/life balance.
Commentary
Analysis of the childcare feasibility study was completed by June 2006. As a result, staff will be consulted to gauge their interest in priority placement and block-booking arrangements. Further investigation will be conducted into the possibility of acquiring a suitable site and the cost of constructing and operating a facility. DEH will also approach other Commonwealth departments and agencies nearby to gauge their interest in establishing a facility in the area.
Goals 2006-07
- Implement undertakings in the 2006-09 Collective Agreement regarding benefits for employees.
