LA4, LA13, HR5: Staff consultation and representation
Goals 2005-06
Complete projects relating to 2004 staff survey by early 2006
Performance 2005-06 and trends
DEH has several mechanisms for consulting staff and ensuring staff interests are represented in decision-making. An extensive staff survey was conducted in 2004 and 2006. Employee responses to the 2004 survey identified performance issues for the department, which have been addressed through new systems and initiatives. All projects arising from the 2004 staff survey were completed by early 2006. Results from the 2006 survey are expected to available by February 2007.
Staff consultative committees also operate across DEH’s divisions. An “ask the executive” feature on the DEH intranet allows for individual staff to ask questions directly of the DEH senior executive, with responses posted publicly on the intranet for all staff.
The new change management protocols, guide and checklist have been used in 2005-06 to assist DEH and employees to manage organisational change (including restructures).
Employees are free to join trade unions (all staff) and engage in collective bargaining (non-SES staff).
Commentary
Some, but not all, aspects of the workload management framework were implemented in 2005-06. It is expected that responses to the 2006 survey will indicate the effectiveness of those changes.
Goals 2006-07
- Conduct 2006 staff survey with results available by February 2007.
