Background story

I originally come from rural Queensland but I have spent my last three years studying at the Gold Coast. Upon leaving high school I was torn between studies in law and science. When I finally decided on legal studies I realised that environmental law would provide a compromise, allowing me to combine my interest in both fields. Through these studies I became increasingly interested in the way Australia's environmental laws were implemented and in the use of alternative avenues for the promotion of compliance with environmental values and pursuit of sustainable industry. As such, a career in the Department was incredibly attractive, offering an opportunity to become involved in both the reactive administration of the legislation and in the more pro-active policy making from a national perspective.
