Following the completion of my undergraduate studies, I swiftly picked up my backpack…and then didn't put it down again for five (amazing) years. After travel across five continents and stints working in environmental assessment positions (in between other quintessential backpacker jobs!), my vast experiences led me home, with an overwhelming desire to put my abilities, knowledge and passion into practice. With both feet (finally) firmly on the ground, I completed Masters studies in Environmental Law and subsequently worked in both private industry and the NSW State Government in natural resource management and environmental planning & assessment roles.
A long-held desire to focus on policy-making from the national perspective and a keen interest in Australia's international activities led me to the Department. The Department's Graduate Program has a lot to offer individuals who have significant work and life experience - you don't need to be straight out of Uni to apply! I see the Program as the ideal way to gain valuable exposure to the different areas of the Department's extensive portfolio and a brilliant way to build professional contact networks for your future in the APS.
