The University of Adelaide
The University of South Australia (Current Student)
Bachelor of Architecture (First Class Honours)
Masters of Urban and Regional Planning (Currently Completing)
At school I enjoyed the artistic and scientific areas of study and enrolled in a Bachelor of Architecture at The University of Adelaide to pursue my interest in both these fields. While at uni I was lucky enough to undertake exchanges in Sweden and Indonesia and participated in a low cost housing study tour of South Africa. Through my degree and travelling I developed a strong interest in environmentally sustainable design and chose to investigate energy efficiency building regulations for housing as an honours project.
After completing honours I worked for two years as a graduate architect in a private firm and became increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of the built environment. It struck me that although it was possible to design buildings with a low environmental impact very few clients had the knowledge, desire or finances to support such a project.
To gain an understanding of how and why urban environments develop I enrolled in a Masters of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of South Australia and started work as a development assessment planer in local government. I worked for the Town of Gawler and City of Salisbury over a fifteen month period and this experience provided me with a valuable insight into local government and South Australia's planning system.
My move to Canberra was motivated by a desire to consider environmental issues at a national scale and since joining the department I have enjoyed working on projects that reduce the environmental impact of Australia's urban areas.
