BA (Hons) - History/Archaeology
PhD - History
I came to the Department of the Environment and Heritage graduate program with a strong history/ historic heritage background. As well as completing history honours and PhD theses I had also worked for a number of years in the private sector as a historical consultant. In between, I, like so many before me, roamed the world armed with little else but a backpack and an interest in seeing and experiencing new places. These adventures made me far more aware not only of heritage issues but also of environmental ones.
During the past year I have worked with a host of passionate, dedicated and thoroughly interesting colleagues and been exposed to an array of fascinating seminar speakers from Australia and overseas. The Graduate program provides a unique opportunity to work across what is, an extremely varied department, as well as to liaise with members of the community beyond it. Not one of my three rotations was in an area that I would have considered familiar prior to embarking on the program. Yet, each one has proven far more rewarding than I could have imagined.
