Background

After growing up in Broken Hill and completing year 12 I decided to travel overseas, where I spent two years working as a nanny in the United Sates and the UK. Travelling and working overseas sparked my interests in international relations and world politics and I returned to Australia to study International Studies at the University of South Australia. Throughout my degree I became increasingly interested in the links between the environment and human security. As a result, I completed a Masters degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Adelaide and joined the Department of the Environment and Water Resources Graduate Program.

First Placement

Water Holding and Management Section, Water Assets and Natural Resources Division

This Section was responsible for establishing the Commonwealth Water Holder, developing the framework for identifying and prioritising the environmental assets to be covered under environmental watering plans and providing guidance for buying and selling necessary water entitlements.

I had the opportunity to:

Second Placement

Mining and Nuclear Section, Approvals and Wildlife Division

This Section undertakes the examination of referrals, environmental assessments, approval condition setting and follow-up of proposals examined under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

My responsibilities included:

Third Placement

Budget Strategies Unit, Policy and Coordination Division

The Budget Strategy Unit is primarily responsible for managing the development of the Portfolio's new policy proposals and budget processes. This includes identifying and delivering solutions to complex budgetary problems as well as liaising with all Portfolio agencies and Australian Government Departments.

My responsibilities included:

Permanent Position - Budget Officer

Budget Strategies Unit, Policy and Coordination Division

I continued on in my third placement.
