Flinders University of South Australia
Bachelor of Arts in Screen Studies and Sociology, Honours in Screen Studies
I grew up in Adelaide and during my time at university majored in Screen Studies and Sociology. I completed my honours year in Screen Studies and wrote my thesis on reality television program Queer Eye for the Straight Guy where I explored the connections between the program's representations of gay men and the economic imperatives of American commercial television. During my honours year I undertook work experience as an Exhibition Manager's Assistant at the Mercury Cinema and Media Resource Centre, an organisation that supports emerging South Australian screen media artists and offers a program of unique screenings. Previous to joining the department I spent a number of years working in retail management roles. Although my background is in arts, I also have a keen interest in the environment and the Graduate Program has offered me a wonderful opportunity to experience work in both of these areas within the Department.
The Indigenous Broadcasting Section administers the Indigenous Broadcasting Program and a funding agreement with National Indigenous Television (NITV). During my time with the Indigenous Broadcasting Section I gained experience in the Department's program and funding work.
My role included;
The Product Stewardship Team develops product stewardship arrangements in cooperation with industry, environmental conservation organisations and state/territory governments to minimise the impact of materials and goods on the environment. The team deals with a range of products including electronic goods, plastic bags, tyres and packaging. During my time with the team I was involved in policy development work.
My role involved;
The Tropical East and Coral Sea Marine Conservation Team is one section within the Marine Division responsible for preparing Marine Bioregional Plans for Commonwealth waters under the EPBC Act and establishing networks of Marine Protected Areas. During my time with the team I worked on an information management project to update the Department's SPRAT Database.
My role included;
'the best thing about working for us ... is the environment'
