Environment Australia, 2001
Environment Australia's performance report for outcome one is structured under broad themes, programmes and departmental outputs.
This structure aligns with the Environment and Heritage Portfolio Budget Statements 2000-01: Table 2.2.1 Performance Information and Level of Achievement.
A: Effectiveness - Overall achievement reported under the heading Themes
B: Performance information for administered items reported under the heading Programmes
C: Performance information for departmental outputs reported under the heading Outputs
Provide advice that is timely, effective, accurate and complete. This can entail advice on international environment issues including the development and implementation of Australian initiatives, proposals by other governments, multilateral meetings and negotiations, and bilateral and regional relationships.
Effectively administer programmes and grants that address environment priorities established by the Government.
Consolidate the protection and conservation of the environment through agreements with stakeholders including State and Territory governments, the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council and industry.
Undertake international activities as an adjunct to domestic environment policies and programmes. These activities include assessments of Australia's broader national interests, foreign policy objectives and commercial opportunities to guide strategic engagement in international affairs.
Raise the level of community awareness on environmental issues by communicating information, collecting information and preparing databases to support management decisions and policy directions.
Take effective action to help the Minister achieve passage of legislation as well as proposing and achieving agreement on reforms, standards and regulations.
Provide timely and accurate advice on assessments and approvals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and other relevant environmental legislation.
