Biodiversity

Protect and conserve biodiversity

The Department implements national programs to reverse the decline in the quality and extent of Australia's native vegetation and to improve conservation in protected areas. It is also working to recover nationally listed threatened species and ecological communities and to combat invasive non-native species.

The Department also funds the Australian Biological Resources Study to advance the identification and classification of Australia's plants and animals, providing the underlying taxonomic knowledge necessary for the conservation of Australia's biodiversity.
