Technical Report No. 3
Environment Australia, May 2002
ISBN 0 6425 4781 5

This review was conducted by the Western Australia Department of Environmental Protection (WA DEP), and was funded by Environment Australia (EA), as part of the Federal Government's Living Cities – Air Toxics Program. Data and information for the report entitled Review of Data on Heavy Metals in Ambient Air in Australia, were provided by South Australia EPA (lead and metals data), New South Wales EPA (lead data), Victoria EPA (lead data and literature), Tasmania Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (lead data), Northern Territory Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (emissions inventory data), Environment ACT (lead data), WA DEP (lead and metals data) and Queensland EPA (lead and physical raw data for metals). Dr David Cohen of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation provided literature on the Aerosol Sampling Program and the CSIRO-Atmospheric Research (CSIRO-AR) provided data from the Aerosol Fine Particles Study. Unpublished data from the Charles Point Study on metals in the Northern Territory were provided by Dr David Parry of the Northern Territory University, Dr Greg Ayers and Dr Robert Gillet of CSIRO-AR and Dr Paulo Artaxo of the University of Sao Paolo (Brazil).

Dr Christine Runnion of the WA DEP consolidated the data and performed statistical analysis of data, and Dr Henry Berko of the WA DEP reviewed the literature, compiled the data and prepared the report. The internal reviewer for the report was Dr Andrea Hinwood of the WA DEP and the external reviewer was Dr Greg Ayers of the CSIRO-AR.

An electronic spreadsheet containing the consolidated records of the lead monitoring data and the metals data used in this report was given to Environment Australia with the report.
