Implementation of Agenda 21
Department of the Environment, Sport and Territories, 1997
The principle of sustainable development is now broadly accepted and built into the working programs of the key bodies of national governance which bring together the National and State and Territory governments. The Council of Australian Governments (CoAG) works to increase cooperation amongst Australian governments to progress matters of national interest. CoAG's role includes consultation on major initiatives undertaken by one government which impacts on other governments, and on major whole-of-government issues arising from Ministerial Council deliberations.
It was initially prepared by the National Information Analysis office, Division for Sustainable Development, DPCSD, United Nations, New York in 1996, based on national information submitted to the Commission on Sustainable Development in 1994, 1995 and 1996, and on statistical data/information from other United Nations documents and statistical yearbooks, unless otherwise indicated.
