About the fact sheet

The Australian Government recognises the need for action to address the conservation and management of Australia's unique natural environment. Caring for our soil, water, vegetation, biodiversity, coasts and oceans is one of the great challenges facing Australians.

Australia's approach to these issues is based on the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development, with a particular emphasis on the integration of sustainable resources use and environmental protection.

The government provides national leadership and works in partnership with all levels of government and the entire community to achieve effective outcomes.
