Ashfield Municipal Council
I am pleased to report Ashfield Council is continuing to work towards bigger and better milestones in the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Australia program. Ashfield Council is taking a holistic approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our municipality. On an organisational front, we're in the process of replacing our fleet of Holden Commodores with smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles. We've even replaced the Mayoral car with an environmentally-friendly hybrid vehicle. We are involving and engaging our community with a range of environmental workshops and programs, including the innovative Sustainability Street Program. I look forward to our continued involvement in this program and making Ashfield a cleaner and greener place to live.
A word from the Mayor
Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
- Hosting a climate change session, where a local resident will make a presentation based on Al Gore's book "An Inconvenient Truth."
- Conducting a GreenPower educaton campaign for local residents.
- Hosting an eco-renovate workshop where residents will learn how to renovate their homes sustainably.
Travel
- Conducting an infrastructure and safety assessment of the local bicycle network. This assessment will provide Council with a priority list of works to improve our bicycle network which will, in turn, make it easier for residents to cycle.
Corporate
- Preparation of Local Action Plan for milestone 3.
- Investigating the use of GreenPower for Council's energy use.
- Conducting energy and water audits at our Aquatic Centre. The results will be used to look for further energy savings within the Centre.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Ashfield Council is currently committed to preparing the Local Action Plan for both Corporate and Community.
