Actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Community
- Council is providing water efficient shower heads and water efficient light globes to residents through several energy giveaway projects.
- Incorporating green waste as mulch in Council parks and gardens.
Travel
- Progressively replacing 6 cylinder vehicles with 4 cylinder vehicles.
Corporate
- Council is now working towards Milestone 4. This involves implementing the Council's CCP Local Action Plan which is the Shire's emission reduction strategy. This plan details the measures which Council will implement to achieve its Milestone 2 emission reduction goals.
- Installing timers on the administration building air conditioning unit and lighting to switch off automatically between 7.30 pm and 6.00 am weekdays.
- Purchasing accredited GreenPower for the Administration building.
- Installing waterless urinals throughout Council buildings, including the Administration building and the libraries.
Future greenhouse abatement actions
- Council has appointed an Environmental Strategy Officer who is dedicated to advancing and implementing the CCP program and promoting the awareness and education of environmental and sustainability issues throughout Council and the wider community.
