Douglas Shire Council
The Douglas Shire Council recognises that a framework of sustainability for all operations is necessary to retain the distinct character of our precious natural environment. We believe it is important to lead by example in encouraging the Shire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the use of non renewable resources and the sequestation of carbon. We believe that by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, we can have a positive impact on the local economy, the community and the environment. A triple bottom line approach in the Douglas Shire has demonstrated the relationship between the economy, the community and the natural environment is one of mutual benefit not trade off. Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Australia have provided a valuable framework by which we can measure and quantify greenhouse gas emissions and therefore look to making improvements.
