About the documents

During 2007-2008, the Department commissioned the consultancy firm Energy Strategies to conduct a study of the bank of ozone depleting substances (ODS) and synthetic greenhouse gases (SGGs) in Australia.

The report assesses the size and growth of the ODS and SGG bank across a number of industries and estimates, in units of carbon dioxide equivalent, emissions from that bank. The report also explores the scope for growth in the recovery and destruction of gases at end-of-life. The research provides information that will be valuable to industry and the public as they prepare for the introduction of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme and for the phase-out of hydrochlorofluorocarbons over the coming decade.

The report is accompanied by an Excel spreadsheet containing data collected over the course of the research.
