National Wildlife Corridors Plan

Public comments - Draft National Wildlife Corridors Plan

The Australian Government is committed to developing a strategy to restore and manage ecological connections in the Australian landscape.

The National Wildlife Corridors Plan Advisory Group has prepared a Draft National Wildlife Corridors Plan. The Draft Plan lays the foundation for a new, collaborative, whole-of-landscape approach to biodiversity conservation that is based on voluntary cooperation and the existing efforts of communities, landholders, governments and industry.

Stakeholder consultation and public comment

The Advisory Group has now concluded stakeholder consultation meetings. The period for public submissions closed on 20 April 2012.

The National Wildlife Corridors Plan Advisory Group will be taking submissions into consideration as they finalise the Draft Plan for the Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.

Funding for wildlife corridors

It is envisioned that funding for wildlife corridors under the National Wildlife Corridors Plan will become available through a number of Australian Government programs, such as the Biodiversity Fund and Caring for Our Country (including the National Reserve System).
