Scientific visits to Kew
Kew requires advance notice of scientific visitors. The ABLO can help organise your visit and ensure that your Herbarium and Library Visitor Card is ready upon your arrival.
- Access to the herbarium is between 9.00 am and 5.30 pm, or 5.00 pm on Fridays.
- Access to the library is between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.
Access after hours or on weekends is possible only with special permission, which must be arranged in advance.
Upon arrival you will be issued with a security pass which will give you access to the collections and library. The ABLO will also provide you with a kit containing information on the specimen arrangement in the herbarium, health and safety issues, and a map of the gardens. Before you visit, please read the conditions for visitors consulting the Herbarium, available at www.kew.org/collections/herb_visitors.html .
The ABLO office is room 21, located on the top floor of Hunter House, and has a phone line on extension 5270.
Tasty baguettes and bread rolls can be purchased from a mobile lunch provider in the Herbarium tea room at 11am (cost c. £1.80–£2.50). Tea and coffee is available throughout the day at a small cost. Food is also available within the gardens, at a handful of nearby pubs and restaurants, or at Kew Village.
