ABRS National Taxonomy Research Grant Program
The 2010 ABRS Bursaries round will be advertised in April 2010.
Bursaries
ABRS offers small grants to Honours, Masters and Ph.D. students in Australian institutions who wish to travel to national or international conferences relevant to both the student’s research program in taxonomy or systematics and ABRS Research Priorities. A maximum of $1000 is available for an international conference and $500 for travel within Australia. Up to $10 000 in total is available each year for these awards.
Research Supplement
In 2009/2010, ABRS offered two $5000 grants for Ph.D. students to provide additional research support for a project requiring taxonomy or systematics analysis. The student’s research projects were required to address the ABRS Research Priorities.

All Bursary and Ph.D. Research Supplement recipients are subject to the terms of the Conditions of Award (Bursary) or Standard Conditions of the Agreement (Supplement) supplied by ABRS.

Assessment Criteria and Process
All Bursary applications are assessed by ABRS according to the evidence provided in the application. The criteria used by ABRS to select successful Bursary applications are:

| Relevance of proposed conference to the applicant’s research and ABRS Research Priorities |
| Amount of matching funding from home institution or other source obtained by applicant |
Reporting
ABRS Bursary recipients are required to report to ABRS on the outcome of their conference attendance. Bursary recipients must submit:
- a one-page report on the outcomes and benefits of the conference to their study. This report is to be supplied to ABRS within 30 days of attending the conference
- evidence of registration at the conference and evidence that a poster or oral paper presentation was submitted to the organisers of the conference. This information may be provided with the application and must be provided to ABRS with the final report, if it has not been provided at an earlier date
- a Financial Expenditure Statement Form (Doc - 30 KB) signed by the recipient’s host institution verifying that the funds have been spent. This is to be provided within two months of the applicant attending the conference. Bursary recipients must acknowledge ABRS support in any published extract, poster or paper.
ABRS Ph.D. Research Supplement recipients are required to report to ABRS on the outcome of their project. Ph.D. Research Supplement recipients must submit:
- a one-page report on the outcomes and benefits of the Research Supplement to their study. This report must be provided by 15 December 2010.
- a Financial Expenditure Statement Form (Doc - 30 KB) signed by the recipient’s host institution verifying that the funds have been spent. This is to be provided by 30 September 2010. Ph.D. Research Supplement recipients must acknowledge ABRS support in any published extract, poster or paper.
