Funding and Research
The Australian Biological Resources Study (ABRS) administers various funding opportunities within the National Taxonomy Research Grant Program. The program is assisted through the appointment of an Advisory Committee that applies its expertise to provide high-level recommendations to the program on its funding priorities.
ABLO
The Australian Botanical Liaison Officer (ABLO) is an annual appointment to work in the Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, United Kingdom. The Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH) cooperates with ABRS in administering the ABLO process.
Advisory Committee
The ABRS Advisory Committee is a non-statutory body, which provides technical and policy advice to ABRS for recommendation to the Minister. Advice includes assessing and recommending funding and developing strategic and operational priorities for the National Taxonomy Research Grant Program.
Bursaries and Ph.D. research supplement
ABRS offers small grants to postgraduate students who wish to travel to national or international conferences relevant to both the student's research program in taxonomy or systematics and ABRS Research Priorities.
ABRS offers two $5000 one-off grants for Ph.D. students to provide additional research support for a project requiring taxonomy or systematics analysis in 2009. The student’s research project must address the ABRS Research Priorities. This grant is for Ph.D. students with at least one year remaining on their projects and who wish to apply for supplement funding before 30 June 2009.
Grants
The ABRS National Taxonomy Research Grant Program provides grants for taxonomic research. Grants are awarded for research projects where the primary aim is to undertake taxonomic research on the Australian biota or to develop products that aid in the dissemination of taxonomic information. The program also supports projects that build Australian taxonomic capacity.
