Introduction

Species in the family Acartiidae inhabit estuarine and coastal near-surface environments. There are five recognised genera, and 71 species, with only two species living in open oceanic waters. Additionally, there is one genus inquirendum. See Boxshall & Halsey (2004: 50) for more details as well as a key to the genera.
