Introduction

Species in the family Ameiridae can be found in a wide range of sediment types and occur in marine and freshwater. Worldwide, nearly 100 species and subspecies occur in freshwater habitats (Boxshall & Halsey 2004); here we list 11 genera and 20 species for Australia.
