Introduction

Sixty species of auger or powderpost beetles are recorded here for Australia, a number of which are introduced species that are pests of timber and food stuffs (Lawrence & Britton 1991).

Many adult bostrichids are clearly recognised by their characteristic cylindrical body and profile, the strongly deflexed head being obscured from above by the prothorax.
