Introduction
Brachystomatidae is a recently established family of empidoid flies, following Sinclair and Cumming's 2006 revised classification of the Empidoidea. The Australian fauna currently consists of 20 species from three genera. Ceratomerus is the most speciose genus with 18 species of Brachystomatinae, based largely on the work of Sinclair (2003). Species of this genus are characteristically found resting on rocks along streams in upland areas.
