Introduction

Caligidae are typically specialised, ectoparasites of fishes, and can be found on the outer surface, the mouth, gills and opercular cavity of the host fish. There are 32 genera, and over 460 species. See Boxshall & Halsey (2004: 725) for more details as well as a key to the genera.
