Diagnosis

Trunk and lateral processes usually smooth, no tubercles, fully or partially segmented, proboscis short; chelifores robust, scape 1-segmented, chelae fully formed, with serrations or denticulate fingers; no palps, ovigers 10-segmented, strong strigilis, distal apophysis on 5th segment of males, no terminal claw; tarsus short, propodus with heel spines, large auxiliaries. Cement gland openings ventral pores or tiny tubes.

 

Taxonomic Notes

In order to fully describe a Callipallene species, the male characters are needed. Child (1975) describes a Callipallene species A from a female and several immatures and a Callipallene species B from four larvae. Both A and B were collected from Cottesloe Beach, Perth, WA. Full descriptions and species names await further collecting.
