    Type data:
     Holotype ZMB 1680 skin & skull, SE Australia (as Neuholland); the type locality is identified by Mahoney, J.A. in Walton (1988: 155), as southeastern Aust. on the basis of what is known about the distribution of H. albipes since European settlement of Australia in 1788.

     Lectotype BMNH 63.6.20.1 skin (whereabouts of skull unknown; the registration number, BMNH 63.2.20.1, recorded by Thomas loc. cit. for the lectotype is incorrect, see Mahoney, J.A. 1982. Identities of the rodents (Muridae) listed in T.L. Mitchell's 'Three expeditions into the interior of Eastern Australia, with descriptions of the recently explored region of Australia Felix, and of the present colony of New South Wales' (1st ed., 1838; 2nd ed., 1839). Australian Mammalogy 5: 15–36 [22]), southeastern Australia (as NSW); the type locality is identified by Mahoney in Walton (1988: 155), as SE Australia on the basis of what is known about the distribution of C. constructor since European settlement of Australia in 1788.
