  • Dardini Schmidt, E. 1908. Beitrag zur Kenntnis der Eurybrachinen. (Hemiptera-Homoptera). Zoologischer Anzeiger 33: 241-247 [242].
    Type genus:
     Dardus Stål, 1859.

Introduction

Although the tribal classification of the Eurybrachidae requires re-examination in light of a greater knowledge of the Australian fauna, the two genera placed here by Metcalf (1956) tend to be shorter and squatter than typical Australian eurybrachids. However, a number of genera currently placed in the Platybrachini should probably be transfered to this tribe but further work is needed to determine that (J. Constant, pers. comm. 2010).

Diagnosis

Schmidt (1908) differentiates the Dardini from the Platybrachini on the basis that, in the former, the ventral margin of the eye bears a knob-like protuberance which is missing from the latter. The key to Australian genera of Eurybrachidae provided by Fletcher (2000, see ID Keys below) indicates that this feature is present only in Dardus Stål and Navorillina Fennah but Metcalf (1956) included Gelastopsis Kirkaldy in the Dardini as well.
