Subdivision ELOPOMORPHA
Introduction
The subdivision Elopomorpha includes fishes that have a ribbon-like larva referred to as a leptocephalus larva. Nelson (1994) recognised four orders. The spiny eels previously placed in the suborder Notacanthoidei of the Albuliformes, are assigned here to an order based on the work of Forey et al. (1996).
