Family GRILLOTIIDAE Dollfus, 1969

Introduction

The subfamily Grillotiinae was erected by Dollfus (1942) within the Lacistorhynchidae and was elevated to family status by him in 1969, without definition. The family was formally defined by Campbell & Beveridge (1993). It is characterised by the possession of two bothridia and a band of hooks on the external surface of the tentacle (Campbell & Beveridge 1994).

It is represented by two genera, Grillotia and Pseudogrillotia, in Australian fishes.
