Introduction

Traditonally most of the other "families" of the Grylloidea have been included in the Gryllidae. Here, in a more restricted sense, the famliy, in Australia, is characterised by the hind femur being less than 2/5 as wide as long, body without scales, head not prognathous, , tarsal; claws not bifurcate, head without dorsal bristles, fore tibia with or without tympana.
