Introduction
[After Edwards 1996: 289]
The Herminiidae have long been recognised as a subfamily of the Noctuidae although Hampson place them in the Hypeninae. Their position was discussed by Kitching (1984) who regarded them as a family. Dugdale (1988) suggested that the presence and form of the prespiracular tympanal hood should be examined closely in many genera. Some North America species have been discussed by Forbes (1954) and the Japanese fauna by Owada (1987). The Australia species have never been listed or revised.
