Family HOMOTOMIDAE
Introduction
A small family of 80 species in 11 genera with pan-tropical distribution and one species found in southern Europe and the Middle East on Ficus carica. Host plants are all in the Moraceae and mainly of the genus Ficus. Most known larvae are free-living, although some live in colonies under communal lerps. Very few species are gall-inducers.
Three species in two non-endemic genera are recorded from Australia, but several undescribed species in various collections have been recognised.
The family was treated on a worldwide basis, including diagnosis, by Hollis & Broomfield (1989).
