Introduction

The family comprises a single species, epizoic on coral reefs in the region of Australia. Bruce (1980, 1988) believed the family to be most closely related to the Limnoriidae.

 

Diagnosis

Body dorsoventrally compressed. Head flat, eyes dorsal. Labrum, clypeus and frontal lamina present. Pleonites 1–5 free. Telson elongate with subapical uropods. Mandible lacks lacinia mobilis, molar process and palp. Maxilliped with epipod and 5–articulate palp. Pereopods all ambulatory. Paired penes present. Pleopods all lamelliform, all setose. The diagnosis follows that of Bruce (1980).
