Family KOONUNGIDAE Sayce, 1908
Introduction
The family comprises only three species, all restricted to Victoria, south-eastern South Australia and northern Tasmania.
Diagnosis
Rostrum broad. Thoracomeres of similar lengths to pleonites; pleonite 6 without row of long spines along posterior margin. Eyes sessile or absent. Antenna 2 without scaphocerite. Mandible with palp. Maxilla 1 with palp. Thoracopod 1 7-articled, not forming a maxilliped, with tubular exopod, with epipod. Thoracopods 1–6 with exopod; thoracopods 7–8 without exopod. Pleopods without endopod, with multiarticulate exopod; except in male where pleopods 1–2 interact as a petasma. Uropods with 1-articled rami. Telson subtriangular, with acute point, and forming tailfan with uropods. Seminal receptacle present in female.
