Species Macrosubulitermes greavesi (Hill, 1942)

  • Eutermes greavesi Hill, G.F. 1942. Termites (Isoptera) from the Australian Region. Melbourne : Council for Scientific and Industrial Research 479 pp. 24 pls [287].
    Type data:
Holotype ANIC No. 9070 alate, Gadgarra, QLD (Miller (1984: 119) incorrectly gave the type locality as Danbulla).
Paratype(s) ANIC series No. 10 2659 alates (type colony; the series from which the alate caste was described contained soldiers belonging to two species. Uncertain of their identities, Hill did not describe them, but commented that one, that he believed was closely allied to what is now called Nasutitermes pluvialis, was probably the soldier of 'E. greavesi'. However, Emerson, A.E. 1960. New genera of termites related to Subulitermes from the Oriental, Malagasy, and Australian regions (Isoptera, Termitidae, Nasutitermitinae). American Museum Novitates 1986: 1–28 [23] showed that the other kind of soldier, allied to what is now Australitermes perlevis, is the soldier of M. greavesi. Under Art. 72(b)(i) of the Code, these soldiers cannot be considered paratypic).
